Obtaining a Visa
To get a Business Visa (EB), you must first enter Cambodia with an E-type (ordinary) visa valid for 30 days.
Once you arrive, Business Center Cambodia (BCC) handles the extension to a Business Visa for 1, 3, 6, or 12 months.
Important: For 6- and 12-month extensions, you must have a valid Cambodian work permit.
The Retirement Visa (ER) is available to anyone aged 55 or over.
✅ No bank deposit required
✅ No proof of income needed
⚠️ This visa does not allow you to work in Cambodia.
It’s the simplest way to live in Cambodia legally as a retiree.
For any long-term relocation, you must enter Cambodia with an E-type (ordinary) visa).
Once in Cambodia, this visa can be extended to a 6- or 12-month Resident Visa adapted to your situation (retirement, business, study, etc.).
Yes — in certain cases, you can obtain a 6-month Business Visa without a work permit.
BCC manages the application and extension for you, with typical timelines of:
- Standard: ~1 week
- Express: 24 hours
Visa Rules & Eligibility
Resident visas are 6- and 12-month visas that:
- Are multiple-entry
- Allow you to open a bank account
- Make you eligible for a Cambodian driver’s license
The E-class includes:
- EB: Business
- ER: Retirement
- ES: Student
- EG: General
- EP: Prospection
Each corresponds to a specific situation and should be chosen carefully to avoid costly changes later.
The EP visa is for people who don’t yet have all the documents to apply for a Business Visa.
- Valid for 3 months
- Renewable only once
- Gives you time to prepare a long-term visa application
The Tourist Visa (T) is valid for 1 month and can be extended once for an additional month.
It cannot be converted to a long-term visa (Business or Retirement) without leaving Cambodia.
If you plan to stay over 2 months or work, avoid the Tourist Visa.
Extensions & Duration
- Standard processing: about 1 week
- Express service: as fast as 24 hours with BCC
If you enter with a non-convertible visa (e.g., Tourist Visa) but wish to stay long term:
- You cannot extend it to a resident visa in Cambodia
- You will have to leave and re-enter with the right visa
Before You Travel
You can get an E-visa on arrival or online, but:
For a smooth entry and fewer airline issues (like being asked for a return ticket), we highly recommend arranging your visa before departure.
- 2 blank pages in your passport
- Passport valid for 6+ months beyond the visa’s end date
- If you already have a Cambodian visa, it must be in your current passport (not an expired one)
Special Cases
Yes — you can change from an ER Retirement Visa to an EB Business Visa, but you must provide the required documents, such as a valid work permit.
No. Cambodian rules are clear: you must be 55+ years old to qualify for an ER Retirement Visa, regardless of your status in your home country.
Minor children accompanying a resident parent can obtain a spouse or child visa, linked to the parent’s visa.
BCC can arrange these applications together to simplify your process.
- B: Officials
- C: Courtesy / VIP / NGOs
- A: Diplomatic staff
These are not for standard relocation, but BCC can assist in special cases.
